Using Email Professionally

SDF Approved

Why is it important to use email properly?

Electronic communication requires careful handling to ensure goodwill and clear communication. Email can increase our productivity, but it can also create delays or conflict.

Here are some examples of how email, if not used properly, can work against us.

A vaguely written message will require further clarifying. When a reader does not know what to do, there will be a delay. On the other hand, when an email reader does not respond, the writer has to email again to confirm receipt.

The impact of language and tone on your email message also cannot be under-estimated. Because many people view email as informal, they are somewhat careless with their language, and this could create a strain on the relationship if the reader perceives the message to be rude or uncaring.

What do you gain from this one-day workshop?

This workshop discusses how people generally misuse email, and what can be done to improve the situation.

You will learn how to craft your email message to convey your ideas in the clearest and most accurate way possible. You will also learn how to use the correct style of writing, as well as improve the tone of your writing.

This workshop also focuses on important email features like the subject line, greetings, closings, the use of CC and BCC functions, etc. You will learn the options available, and the implications of each option.
